Robert Downey Jr., Ben Stiller and Jack Black at Tropic Thunder premiere

The Stiller-Black-Downey lovefest continued for its London premiere today, as thousands of fans lined up to greet the stars at Leicester Square. Apparently, no jeers from protesters were to be found, but plenty of cheers from moviegoers.

Ben Stiller poll at Paste Magazine

Paste Magazine is running a poll on which Stiller project has been his funniest.

The options include:

    Heat Vision and Jack
    Tropic Thunder
    The Cable Guy
    Anchorman
    The Royal Tennenbaums
    Zoolander
    Meet the Parents
    There’s Something About Mary
    The Ben Stiller Show

Seems that the Paste guys had to fill out the poll with a couple films that Ben didn’t actually star in or direct (he had a brief cameo in Anchorman and a minor role in Tennenbaums) and forgot a bunch of leading roles: Night at the Museum, Dodgeball, Starsky & Hutch, and Mystery Men. D’oh!

Check out the poll at PasteMagazine.com.

Ten years of BenStiller.net

This month marks the ten-year anniversary of BenStiller.net!

What was started as a tribute to an extremely short-lived TV sketch show, which regularly came in the bottom of the ratings, has (finally!) grown into a news and info site on Ben Stiller, the multi-talented performer and director, along with his circle of comedic pals.

Check back soon, as over the next few days, I’ll be announcing a couple of contests for Ben Stiller-related goodies.

Tropic Thunders to Third Weekend Win

Ben Stiller’s big-budget action-satire Tropic Thunder has taken the third weekend crown, fending off the weak assault by Vin Diesel’s Babylon AD. Thunder earned an estimated $14.3 million over the four-day Labor Day weekend, bringing it up to nearly $87m domestically.

Stiller to be honored at MOMI

Ben Stiller is getting a boost from his hometown of New York, being named this year’s honoree for the Museum of the Moving Image annual “Black Tie Salute.”

Stiller’s friends are expected to attend, to reminisce and offer clips of his career. (I’d imagine we’ll be seeing a Frat-Pack-reunion.)

The 24th annual MOMI salute will be on November 12, at the famed Cipriani restaurant on 42nd Street.

MOMI director Rochelle Slovin said, “Ben Stiller is one of the great talents of American entertainment: a memorable actor, an accomplished director and writer, an Emmy Award winner and innovative producer.”

Stiller pal Tom Cruise, who appears along with Ben in Tropic Thunder, was last year’s honoree.

Thunder gets its own mockumentary

Tropic Thunder writer Justin Theroux, along with performer Steve Coogan, have put together a mockmentary on the making of Tropic Thunder called “Rain of Madness”. It’s a take on “Hearts of Darkness,” the behind-the-scener of the Francis Ford Coppola classic Apocalypse Now– which itself was an inspiration for Stiller’s film.

The 30 minute short is available for free download through iTunes, and features most of the cast, along with Theroux playing a faux-German documentarian named Jan Jurgen. He introduces the mockumentary thus: Continue reading “Thunder gets its own mockumentary” »
