The Ben Stiller Show ran for twelve episodes on the Fox network in 1992-1993. It regularly hit near last place in the Nielsens. After its cancellation, the show won the Emmy for comedy writing, beating out Saturday Night Live and two other Fox sketch shows, In Living Color and The Edge. Proof that at least someone with a sense of humor was watching, even though Fox kept juggling time slots, and for a while had it running opposite 60 Minutes. Opps. Two years later, Comedy Central picked up TBSS in syndication and even ran a "lost" thirteenth episode.

Since then, all the principle performers -- Andy Dick, Janeane Garofalo, Bob Odenkirk, and Stiller, himself -- have gone on to bigger and better things.

TBSS brought together a brilliant cast, inspired writers, and previously unseen production values to sketch comedy. Years after its cancellation, people are finally beginning to "get it." In March 1999 at the US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, the Show and its performers were honored with a
reunion event. The next month, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences paid tribute to the show for its contributions. During the summer of 1999, the Museum of Television and Radio showcased the series in both New York and Los Angeles. And after being out of syndication for five years, on August 1, 1999 Fox's second-run Fx cable network held a marathon of the Show so that a (few) more folks could finally see what some of us had known for years: The Ben Stiller Show was darned funny stuff.
